Munchy Brunchy

With my mama's birthday this past weekend, I spent a lot of time planning out what to make for her brunch I preparing for her and her friends. I owe this woman the world, so obviously I'm going to make the yummiest things I can come up with. Click the links below for recipes!

Blueberry Pavlova

This was one of the easiest things I've ever created, which is encouraging to a beginner to the big bad world of baking. The simplicity in the instructions from this recipe lead to me making a meringue, can you believe it, a meringue! That doesn't sound or look like beginner stuff, but pat on the back, I did it.

Fini!

Perfume Bottles

You want to buy dainty, lacey bras.

You’ve got your perfume bottles
lined up on the shelf above your sink
They’re rose-tinted and empty.

Your voice is raspy
because you’re recovering
from a cold.

Your thighs touch.
They’re always gonna touch
but keep running damnit.

You want to spend your time writing
You’ve got a few tragedies
to which you could lay your hand.

You’ve tried it before.
You’re shit at it.
Stop trying to write you’re not a writer.

You can’t be a lady.
Just can’t.
You wrote “shit” in a poem that

You wish was filled with
Femininity. Flowing like
Peach silk - a dress you just bought.

Your blue eyes are alright, clear,
Your mermaid hair your mom
Doesn’t like.

It was the one thing you did like.
Jaw too square and still too
round.

Shoulders too wide.
Collar bones too
shallow.

But you could line up
fucking perfume bottles
and feel a little daintier.

Fuck up.

Sparkles

Using this as inspiration for a good friend of mine's 18th tonight! Perk up understated neutrals with a bang? Sounds perfect for the occasion :)

Joyeux Anniversaire

 Mom, you've been my best friend since before I was born (hah) and I can't imagine what it's going to be like next year half-way around the world from you. You are so beautiful and inspire me all the time with your grace and intelligence, I just can't compare.
 You've never doubted me for a second and I've come as far as I have greatly because I had you cheering for me the whole way.
 You're still as super-hawt as you were in the 80's, seriously.
Your sacrifice for me and Henrik is the most incredibly amazing thing anyone's ever done for me, and I love you so so so much for it. I can't wait to follow in your footsteps at Wash U.
Happy birthday!
x

Surfing x4

Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere rocks the perfect spring frock
Ryan Berkley's "Well Dressed Animals" are simply the best
My best friend Ebony's blog is the perfect combination of wit, rebellion, and comedy
It's that time of year, let the online swim suit shopping begin with no less than J. Crew
Alt-J can create something so righteous and beautiful simultaneously. This acoustic version of Bloodflood stole my breath.

The Prahm

{Anthony}
{riding in style in our london cabs}

{Annika, Chelsea, me, and Kaitlin. We look like something out of the Bratz movie}

{The "Party Pose"}
{Poolside with the date}

This is by far the most I've ever felt like a princess in my life, even with the humidity sucking sweat out of my pores and dripping down my back. Lovely imagery, no? Regardless, I have to give a million thank-you's to Annika for housing us for the pictures, lending me a dress, and essentially forcing me to go to prom which I was ready to back out of any day or time, YOU DA BEST ON-KON. Mi madré made herself present to photograph the occasion and did a lovely job, the lighting was just gorgeous at 6 in the evening. Getting ready for prom is definitely more fun than prom itself (sorry prom committee), and our dinner at PS Café at Ann Siang Hill, Chinatown was just perfect and super duper fun. So glad I went to my senior prom. Let the nostalgia begin.

Surfing x3

This "Make Your Own Coffee Syrup" recipe  is going on the list of things I want to make for my mom's birthday!

Such a lovely blog with loads of inspiration.

This new tropical collection on Sabo Skirt had me so distracted in US history class, not gonna lie.

The sweetest and calmest collection of photographs - I can't get enough!

Sleepy Citrus

I made some crazy simple orange-grapefruit juice using, you guessed it, a butt-load of oranges and grapefruits. Because it was overkill on tartness (which I can handle, however, my mom detests), I diluted it with water and splashed in some sugar for taste. Perfect for a springtimer getting in the mood for warmer weather. Bring it with you on a picnic or sip it with breakfast, it's sure to perk you up out of a sleepy state! And the colors just warm you up by looking at them--it's the good stuff people.

Lace Me Up

Screw weddings, I'd wear these dresses any day of the week. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I'm a sucker for a flowy white dress (even after labor day, or before labor day, or whatever that rule my grandmother still abides to is, GASP). But I'm finding myself more and more drawn to weddings, not to get married myself, but perhaps designing gowns or planning and organizing marriages is in my future--who knows!

Flirtatious Apathy

The abundance of these sketchy collages all over tumblr (they've got them for James Franco, Justin Bieber, Marina's Electra Heart, you name it) never fail to make me smile so widely while sitting alone in front of a screen. I get from them this radiating "it's okay to be a girly girl and still hate everything" vibe, which is something I've, weirdly enough, struggled with my whole life. I'm surrounded by wickedly smart women all the time, so being girly has always seemed something to turn away from. Not as in I can't wear dresses or any of that stuff, but it's considered kind of a relapse for me if I give in to gossip or talking about boys, doing girly things, painting my nails pink, etc... So how does one give in to all of this girliness and still maintain a sense of self, a sense of the image I've been building for myself my whole life? Ahh yes, a touch of apathy. "ew school" "how about now" "you suck" "loser" "can u not" Talk about 90's to the max. As a child of the 90's myself, who definitely experienced the girly period of wearing only dresses (fun anecdote - I cried when my dad tried to put me in pants and a striped t-shirt for a flight to France when I was 7 because I was scared of looking like a boy). So as of now, I'm craving piles of Lisa Frank notebooks, jelly sandals worn with frilly lace-topped socks, and enough eye-rolling to see my brain. Girly-girls unite, but without too much enthusiasm please, ladies.

Candy

Power duo Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola have knocked it out of the park with this new ad for Prada's Candy fragrance, starring Léa Seydoux. No more of these inaccessible women and men in designer ads, the kind that intimidate you. No, you want to jump right into this café or movie theater with these three crazy frenchies and shove popcorn in your face with Léa. The quickness of banter had me smiling while trying to catch the subtitles while still capturing the french with my ears. A story told in 1:17 so flirty and fresh is rarely found, so I had to share! This is just part 1, and the rest is super cute as well, be sure to check them out!

Thoughts?

Reflectings

The front garden, home to gnomes and fairies in dazzling afternoon sunshine. Ahhhhh.
